Admission Requirements

 

Admission is offered to boys and girls from 14 to 18 years old who have an interest in learning about aviation (incoming    9th,10th,11th,12th grade). Applicants are competitively ranked based on age, cumulative GPA, and essay.

 

• Students must be physically capable of participating in all activities.

• High standards of behavior and self-discipline are expected and students must abide by all academy regulations.

• Parents or guardians must attend an orientation before programs begin.

 

Application Process

 

There is a $100.00 non-refundable application-processing fee for ALL APPLICANTS to cover administrative and academy costs. The application deadline Wednesday, June 12, 2019. Admittance is limited, so apply early!

 

The requirements are:

 

1. Submit a $100.00 non-refundable application fee. Payable online during the application process. a. If you require sending payment by Check or Money Order, you must contact the national office at 1-800-538-6227. Make all check/money orders payable to: Twin Cities ACE Academy

 

2. Submit a completed online ACE Academy application. Once completed be sure to PRINT and bring to the first day or orientation of the academy.

 

3. Complete the online essay.

 

a. Write and submit an essay of one page (only one page) expressing your interest in aviation. You may include your hobbies, civic involvement, and extra-curricular activities

b. We recommend you give some thought to your essay as it is reviewed by the TCAA director.

c. You may also consider typing it in MS Word or another text editor and cut and paste the content into the essay text block. Note you are only allowed a certain amount of space.

 

4. Submit a copy of your most recent official school transcript or report card indicating your cumulative GPA. Incomplete packages will not be considered for admission and all documents will be discarded. Students will need money only if they intend to purchase personal items and are responsible for keeping their own funds.

DAY 1: ORIENTATION AND BASIC TRAINING DAY (2018 SCHEDULE)

 

800-900                Check-in, breakfast, & academy overview (includes tour of facilities)

900-915                Break

915-1000              Classroom C/D (Aviation History: Facilitated by Donald Gardner & Captain Woody Fountain)

1000-1045            Classroom C/D (Basic Flight & Aerodynamics:  Facilitated by Victor Smith)

1045-1200            Classroom C/D (Air Traffic Control Procedure’s with Flight Simulators: Facilitated by Melanie Whittaker)

1200-1300            Lunch

1330-1530            Tour Endeavor Air Operations Control Center (OCC)

                             ~Plan B: Prepare weather balloon

1530-1700            Begin High Altitude Photo Experiment (HAPE)

1700                     End of Day 1

 

 DAY 2: AEROSPACE DAY

 

715-800                Check-in & breakfast

800-1200              Weather Balloon Release to Space & Rocket Competition (Location TBD)

1200-1300            Lunch

1300-1500            Minneapolis Tower Tour

1500-1700            Edit weather balloon video

1700                     End of Day 2

 

DAY 3: COLLEGE ROAD TRIP DAY

 

715-800                Check-in & breakfast

800-1630              Minnesota State University Mankato – Airport & College Tour

1630-1700            End of Day 3

 

DAY 4: AIRPORT OPERATIONS DAY

 

800-830                Check-in & breakfast

900-1030              Army Guard Tour: Helicopter Preflight

1030-1200            Air National Guard for C130 Tour

0100-1600            Metropolitan Airports Commission tour: Delta Mx, Fire Station, Field Mx Personnel

1600                     End of Day

DAY 5: FLIGHT TRAINING AND GRADUATION DAY

800-830                Check-in & breakfast

830-900                Travel to Crystal Airport

900-1400              Preflight Aircraft, Intro Flights, & BBQ!

1430-1500            Travel back to Wilder Foundation…End of Training

1900-2100            Awards & Graduation Banquet
